Chen was too tough to lose hope, and to everyone's delight, after the 6-hour rescue works, he was finally set free. Although Chen was extremely weak, he murmured "thank you" to all the people around him. While the rescue workers were carrying Chen to the nearby makeshift clinic, he stopped speaking and responding. An officer proceeded with cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately, but failed to save him. The murmur of "thank you" became his last words in this world. The death toll of Sichuan earthquake has already rocketed to around 70,000 and Chen Jian has unfortunately become one of the victims.
