The purpose of this study was to investigate the emotional responses of skilled and unskilled swimmers regarding their swimming experiences. The Emotional Response to Swimming Questionnaire was developed, based on Allen's (1981) research with emotional experiences of elite athletes. Responses were scored using a technique developed from the work of Russell (1980), and were plotted and compared in graphs. Responses were analyzed by placing them into one of four categories: Effectiveness/Control, Affiliation, Affective Impression, and Phenomenological Description. Results were discussed in terms of the intensity and the direction of the responses. Implications for the teachers of swimming were stated, and recommendations were given, based on the findings in this investigation. | ||
